Wide Receiver
Being a wide receiver is very fun, but it comes with a lot of responsibility. At our age, it's hard to find a good passing quarter back so it's mostly runs but there is some passing still. First, to run a good route, you want to start with your inside leg forward and looking at the quarter back. Then, once the play starts, you launch off the line as fast as you can. Now, if the person guarding you is playing press, which is being close up and physical, then you want to involve your hands and legs and get around him. This could be swiping both of your hands one way or swiping one and ripping through. Also, you could use your legs and juke him out. If they're playing around 5 yards back, a normal cornerback depth, then you want to always make it seem like you are doing a streak, but then make your cut. When you make a cut, you don't want to stutter your feet because that allows the defender to react and get back to guarding you. But if you sell a go and make a cut in one step he will be chasing you leaving the quarter back to throw it where he should. After you catch it, tuck it in immediately or several things might happen. One, as you catch it the ball hits your knee and pops out. Two, as your catching it the defender rips it out. Three, you juggle it from holding on too long and making a move and it slips out. Next, you will go straight to the end zone. Being a wide receiver, I recommend only making a few jukes and just use your speed because others might come up and tackle you or if you try to truck someone they might be stronger and tackle you. On a run play, you want to block them outside out of the play and even drive them to the sidelines. When you block, you should stutter your feet and be low. You should keep on firing your hands out and if they knock them down put it back up. These are the basics of being a wide receiver.
